Cover Photo: My thoughts on homosexuality

Last night I was watching a Bollywood movie named Dear Dad. The film is about a father coming out to his teenage son, that he is gay. It is a beautiful film with a stirring tale about love and acceptance. The story of the movie effectively and intelligently beats the stigma of homosexuality. I know in India, sex and all such related matters are not yet openly discussed. So, I thought why not write a blog on homosexuality and try to open people’s minds. I hope this article will change your perspective on homosexuality, as penning down this has changed mine. Following are my thoughts on homosexuality.

I am a human being, and I respect the sexual orientation of a human. I respect heterosexuals, homosexuals and bisexuals. And, I respect the LGBT community too. I not only respect, but I appreciate the LGBT people. I think they are as ordinary as any human being. I believe homosexuality is not just a form of sex; it’s a form of love and a community of people that are a part of humankind. The only difference is that they are tagged as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer. You are a man who loves a woman, but he is a man who loves a man. The same thing goes for a woman. It’s not a big deal. It’s just that a person like its own gender and is sexually attracted to people of their own sex.

If you don’t know about homosexuality, then please understand that being homosexual is not a choice. It is biological and natural! It’s their birth nature and birthright. They are born with that urge to love the people of the same sex. I think there is nothing wrong with being in a sexual relationship with the same sex. I don’t know why people oppose this and find it wrong. If you can’t accept the people for who they are, then why do you hate, judge or treat them differently? Please don’t do that. They are humans just like us.

Homosexual people are in every religion, caste and community. I feel there are so many homosexual people in this world that might be leading a double and unhappy life. Many are already living in the closet and fear. All they need is acceptance from people like us. They deserve respect and love. They deserve to live and breathe.

Homosexuality is not a crime. Heck, it shouldn’t be! I mean arresting people for being in a same-sex relationship and slapping charges against them. What kind of crime is this? People who are sexually attracted to the same gender are criminals? Homosexuals are criminals? Seriously! Whether you love a man, woman, or the same gender person, all you are doing is loving someone. And, love is love. How can love be a crime? To all the people who are opposing homosexuality, I hope you will understand this type of human nature soon.

I would also like to use this blog as an opportunity to thank India’s Supreme Court for making the supremely important and historical judgement a few days back. On September 06, 2018, the Supreme Court of India abolished the IPC Section 377 henceforth decriminalising homosexuality and making it legal in India. Congratulations to all the people who fought to make this a reality! It is a big win as a democracy, and for humanity, equality and equal rights. I am proud of all those people who accept homosexuality. Let’s embrace one and all and their choices.

To all my friends who belong to the LGBT community and are afraid to come out openly to the world, be who you are. Make an effort to put courage in your heart to be open about who you are. Live open. Live free. As I said earlier, you are not criminals. We are all human beings. We are all born equal. We are all special. Here through this blog, I am sending a lot of love and strength to you.

"Homosexuality is not a disease, nor is it a genetic disorder; it is a general attraction towards another person."

Cover Photo: "One such friendship - Death and Life!" by Ronak Sawant

English Translation:

"One such friendship - Death and Life!"

One day Death came and said Life, will you befriend me?

Life said, If you know how to fulfil friendship, then why not!

Death said, How to fulfil?

Life said, From the heart.

Death said, Okay! But, I have no heart.

Life said I have two hearts. I can work even with one heart. One centre is enough for me.

Death said I am sorry because I lied to you that I have no heart. I have a heart. I just wanted to learn how to fulfil a friendship. And I learned that. Now I am completely ready for our friendship.

Life said, Whoever does not lie for selfishness, it is called friendship.

Death said I am happy, I have found such a friend.

Life said I am happy I have got such a friend.

They both hugged each other and said - Happy Friendship!

It became such a friendship, in which there was no complaint and no demand. Death never demanded life from life and Life never demanded death from death. It became such a friendship that it was named, death and life. This friendship now lives in all of us. We have to learn how to fulfil it from them.

Cover Photo: Problems in life - Ronak Sawant

Problems exist in everyone’s life. They keep coming one after the other. But the truth is, problems are an inherent part of life, and they play an essential role in our life. Problems have the power to change our life completely. Difficulties make us who we are and what we choose to do or be. So the problems that are happening in life are for our good and benefit. Having a problem is never a sign of weakness or failure. It thus exists to say we are doing something wrong and that need to be fixed.

The fact is we all have the power to solve all our problems in life. It is all inside us. But instead of becoming the problem solver, we become the problem itself. I agree some problems are small and some are way too big to digest. But often it is seen that the problems that we call or name big end up being so small that we couldn’t stop ourselves calling us fools. Such a fool we are right!

The problems that are happening in our life are created by us or by others. It’s easy to find a solution and solve the problem, but it’s hard when you involve yourself or someone in it and play the blame game. Such problems are called stupid problems even though they are real. The more you will blame, the more you will be attached to your problem. The point is to be free from the problem, not to be a part of the problem. One of the best ways to solve the problem in life is to not involve anyone (including you) in it and stopping the game of blaming.

There are two types of problems in life: Problem that has a solution (it’s a changeable one) and Problem that doesn’t have any solution (it’s unchangeable). If the problem has the solution, then for that your action is needed and if the problem doesn’t have any solution then for that your thinking and understanding is required. The way you look towards the problem plays the significant role. If you think right, the problem will be alright. In general, life will be easy and bright. If you look at your problems negatively, you cannot solve them. This way you will make your difficulty a huge obstacle. You will want to come out of that hurdle, but you won’t. You will never be happy if you continue the negativity towards life. So remove negativity and add positivity.

Try and understand the root of your problem, this way you will surely find out a permanent solution to all your life problems. Running away and giving up is never a solution and it won't solve your problems. For problems seeming to be unchangeable and beyond our control, rather than simply trying to remove them or escaping reality, add positivity in life and change the experience.

Problems are just problems don't let them ruin your life. Don’t let your problems take over you. Don't let your problems define you. So if you have any problem in life right now, accept it, appreciate it and then deal with it in the right way and very soon you will be happy and free.

"Problems in life are easy to solve. Don’t be a problem, be a problem solver."

English Translation:

"When I was small"

When I was small,
I wanted to grow up and become big!
So big that I wanted to touch the sky.
Life continued, and I grew up.
With so many effort and hard work, I touched that sky.
Yes, I became big.
But now I have realised that there’s much more fun in staying small.

"When you are small, you dream of becoming big in life. But when you become big, that’s when you realise that life is much more fun being small."

Garv hai mujhe bhaartiy hone par,
Garv hai maine iss mulk par janam liya hai.
Mai iss desh ka vaasi hoon, yeh mera desh hai.
Mera bharat mahaan!
Mai pyaar karta hoon mere desh se,
Isliye mai iske ache ke liye ladh raha hoon.
Mai apni aawaaz utha raha hoon,
Suno...

Rape badh raha hai,
Rapists’ badh rahe hai,
Bahut kuch ho raha hai,
Lekin mera desh so raha hai.
Sab kuch ho jaane ke baad,
Tab jaag jata hai achanak.
Thode din baatein karta hai,
Dukh mein sahbhaagi hota hai,
Nyaay ke liye ladhta hai aur haath mein candle liye raaste pe chalta hai.
Kuch samay baad yeh sab bhool jata hai.
Uss ladki ko bhool jata hai.
Iss rape case ko bhool jata hai.
Aur aaropi jail ke bahar shaan se jeeta hai.
Fir kuch din baad wapas aisi rape case ho jaane par,
Fir se achanak neend se jaag jata hai.
Kyun aisa ho raha hai?
Kyun mera desh so raha hai?
Akhir kab tak chalta rahega aisa?
Asifa, Nirbhaya, Damini, aur inke jaise bahut saare pariyon ko kab milega insaaf?

Aur aisa ghinona kaam karte ho aur hone dete ho,
Sharam aati hai.
Teri maa ro rahi hai tere jaisa beta paakar.
Tera parivaar sharam se mar raha hai aisa aulaad paakar.

Sarkaar chup kyun baithi hai?
Kanoon kyun andha ho gaya hai?
Mera desh kya tha, aur ab iska kya haal kar diya hai!
Unn haiwaanon ke liye jaldi kanoon banao aur unhe faansi sunao.
Desh ke betiyon aur unn pariyon ko insaaf dilao, jaldi insaaf dilao.

Insaanon ka naqaab pehne bahut saare rakshas hai mere desh mein.
Angrezon se toh aazaadi mil gayi hai,
Lekin ab inn desh ke shaitaano se aazaad hona hai.
Yeh hi waqt hai, desh ko sudhaarna hai.
Inn haiwaanon se ladhna hai.
Apne desh ke betiyon aur unn pariyon ko insaaf dilana hai.
Yeh sab tab mumkin hoga,
Jab hum insaan ek saath honge.
Ek saath, ek saath,
Ek saath honge yaar!
Yeh saare rakshas inn aise aawaazon se darte hai aur sunte hi haar maante hai.
Isliye aawaaz uthao, desh ko bachao!
Aawaaz uthao, desh ko bachao!
Aawaaz uthao, desh ko bachao!
Aawaaz uthao, desh ko bachao!

English Translation:

“Raise the voice, save the country!”

(Rape, gang rape in India)

I am proud to be an Indian,
I am proud that I have born in this country.
I am a resident of this country; it is my country.
My India is great!
I love my country.
That’s why I'm fighting for its good.
I am raising my voice,
Listen...

Rape is on the rise,
Rapists are increasing,
So much is happening,
But my country is sleeping.
After everything has happened,
Then suddenly it awakens.
Talks about it for a few days,
Participates in sorrow,
Fights for justice and protests on the road holding a candle in hands.
After some time it all forgets.
Forgets that girl.
Forgets this rape case.
And the accused lives in peace outside the prison.
Then, after a few days, when such a rape incident happens again,
Suddenly it wakes up again from the sleep.
Why is this happening?
Why is my country sleeping?
How long will it last?
Asifa, Nirbhaya, Damini, and many angels like them when will they get justice?
When will their soul get peace?
When will the girls in my country live fearless and free?
When will my country be full of Independence?

Bharat Mata Ki Jai, you chant!
And you do such a horrible thing and let it happen,
Feel ashamed.
Your mother is crying giving birth to a son like you.
Your family is dying of shame having a member like you.

Why is the government sitting silently?
Why is the law blind?
What was my country, and now what has happened to it?
Please quickly make strict laws for rapists and hang them.
Give justice to the daughters and the angels of the country; we want justice quickly.

There are so many monsters wearing human's mask in my country.
We had obtained Independence from the Britishers,
But now we have to obtain freedom from the country’s devils.
This is the only time! The country has to improve.
We have to fight against these monsters.
We have to give justice to the daughters and those angels of the country.
All this will be only possible,
When we humans will be together.
Together, together,
When we will be together, my friend!
All these devils are afraid of these voices and they accept defeat when they hear it.
So raise the voice, save the country!
Raise the voice, save the country!
Raise the voice, save the country!
Raise the voice, save the country!

"Live like your mother says,
my son did not become rapist; he became a man."

It’s hard to imagine the pain and horror this little angel has gone through. Asifa, I’m sorry my dear this nation wasn’t safe for you. May you rest in peace! This crime is not against the 8-year-old little girl, it is against humanity. Praying such inhuman acts never happens to anyone again.

WAKE UP, RAISE YOUR VOICE AND SAVE THE COUNTRY!
